4/2/2023 0 Comments Hello music video tennisI feel like it’s just helpless to comment on it anymore. How have you reacted to this? I’ve expressed myself already on that matter. As much as you don’t expect Celine Dion to walk onstage in jeans, that’s the way it is. She can’t just wear a jean jacket and wander in that forest looking for a phone booth-it’s stupid. She’s extremely, powerfully beautiful she’s got very strong and very sophisticated features. I need to protect my eyes I need my eyes to work. I was reaching for my sunglasses, literally. She looks beautiful in life! When I first met her, I was blinded by her beauty. And she does because she’s an outstanding beauty. But I feel like for someone who has such strong things to say, vocally and sonically, she must stand out, visually speaking. Of course, in real life, she looks like you and me and she’s wearing normal clothes. What she offers is so unique that she’s risen to such a status that very few artist can enjoy. She is one of the greatest voices of this industry and of her own art. Is that true? I design all of the costumes for my movies, actually. I heard you designed the coat that Adele wears in the video. The only thing I regret is that it might not be that obvious on an iPhone. The idea was to play with depth and modify it and adapt it to an emotional dimension. I don’t feel like it was entirely incompatible with that story of that music video. But I think that it’s not the sole purpose of IMAX to capture cars exploding in your face. You know, the nature and the DNA of IMAX has been redefined in the past years to shoot these huge blockbusters. You wouldn’t necessarily think of pairing IMAX with an Adele song. It was important for me that this moment would feel different, would feel deeper. The imagery on IMAX stands out from the rest and I wanted that in the finale with all the autumn leaves, when she’s belting out the final chorus. And then suddenly those ideas seemed accessible and they didn’t seem completely insane. I had never thought of filming in IMAX before because it was so out of reach from the means that I usually have to make movies. Why did you decide to shoot it in IMAX? I wanted to shoot the video in film. That’s what she’s been doing from the very beginning, and I’ve been following a similar writing pattern in movies. We sort of stem from the same artistic approach, which is to share with the world our most private and deepest moments. We started talking about our lives and our loves and our respective romances and what had inspired us. She made me listen to the song, and I loved it immediately. I was in Paris at the time with friends, and we just all hopped on the Eurostar to go to London and meet with her. You’re an indie film director, so how did you get involved with shooting the music video for Adele’s new song? Adele approached me, which was as flattering as it was surprising. We caught up with Dolan over the phone and talked about the enormous response to his first music video, and why he hates the fact that everyone fixated on that stupid flip phone. After racking up more than 27 million views in just a day, “Hello” has now dethroned Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” to become the video with the most views in a 24-hour period. The sentimental clip immediately went viral, and fans everywhere shared photos of themselves crying after watching it-even Kate Hudson and Katy Perry couldn’t contain themselves. That all changed last week, after his video for Adele’s new song, “Hello,” was released. While Dolan’s movies have garnered a loyal following, his name wasn’t entirely familiar to those outside the independent film universe. Since then, the prolific director has made several more critically acclaimed indie films, and his most recent effort, Mommy, won the Jury Prize at Cannes last year. Art house wunderkind Xavier Dolan has had the attention of the film world ever since he wrote and directed his first movie, I Killed My Mother, at the age of 20.
